Celebrating Faith, Youth, and Athleticism at the Free Throw Championship

This past Sunday, the Knights of Columbus John Paul II Council 13935 hosted its annual Free Throw Championship at St. Patrick’s Parish. The event brought together young athletes from our parish and the wider community, showcasing not only their talent but also the core values of faith, community, and dedication.

The highlight of the day was 11-year-old Teddy, a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, who excelled in his division and will now advance to the regional competition. Teddy’s focus, determination, and sportsmanship stood out as a testament to the importance of encouraging our youth to pursue excellence while staying rooted in their faith.

Faith in Action

The Free Throw Championship is about more than just athletic performance; it’s an opportunity to emphasize the role of faith in shaping well-rounded individuals. At the start of the competition, participants, families, and volunteers joined together in prayer, entrusting the day to God and celebrating the gifts He has given us. Events like this remind us that athletic achievements are a way to glorify God, who blesses us with talents and opportunities.

Youth: The Future of Our Church and Community

Encouraging young people to engage in events like the Free Throw Championship helps build their confidence and sense of belonging. The Knights of Columbus are committed to fostering an environment where youth can grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. Teddy’s achievement reflects the potential of our next generation when they are supported by a faith-filled community.

Athleticism and Discipline

Sports play an important role in teaching valuable life lessons such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. These qualities not only contribute to athletic success but also prepare young people for challenges in their personal and spiritual lives. Teddy’s focus during the competition and his humility in victory demonstrate how faith and athleticism can go hand in hand.

Thank You to Volunteers and Supporters

The success of the Free Throw Championship would not have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers, many of whom are members of Council 13935. From setting up the gym to scoring each shot, their efforts reflected the Knights’ mission to serve our parishes and communities.

We are especially grateful to the families who brought their children to participate, cheer, and share in this wonderful day. Your presence reinforces the importance of building a supportive community that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.

Looking Ahead

As Teddy prepares for the regional competition, we invite the parish community to keep him in your prayers. His journey serves as a reminder of the importance of providing opportunities for our youth to grow and shine. Through faith, determination, and a supportive community, there is no limit to what they can achieve.

We look forward to continuing this tradition and inspiring even more young people to participate in the years to come. Together, let us celebrate the intersection of faith, youth, and athleticism in our parish and beyond.

Vivat Jesus!
